Not many people know that the building of Prague‘s Main Railway Station contains the most sumptuous station lounge in the Czech Republic. It was created during the art-nouveau reconstruction of the station by the architect Josef Fanta. All Czech presidents have waited for their trains in the luxurious surroundings under a huge canvas with Prague motifs, as did Emperor Franz Joseph I, Fidel Castro, Kim Ir-sen and the body of the assassinated Reichsprotector Reinhard Heydrich. If you are not planning to become a head of state, the festival Open House Praha offers you one of the few opportunities to visit the magnificent lounge.
